When eight-year-old Mercy became unwell, her family faced weeks of confusion and fear. After repeated referrals and inconclusive tests, she was finally seen by our partner team at Moi Hospital paediatrics, where she was diagnosed with cancer.

The strain on the family was overwhelming. Travel costs, hospital stays and the long wait for answers had drained their limited savings. Her siblings’ schooling was disrupted and the uncertainty left everyone anxious and exhausted.

Thanks to the paediatric team and community volunteers trained in child palliative care through your donations, Mercy’s family received the specialist help they urgently needed. They learned how to manage her symptoms at home, ease her pain and recognise when to seek help. Most importantly, they were supported emotionally at a time when everything felt uncertain.

“I had lost hope watching our daughter suffer, but the palliative care team changed everything. Their kindness and compassion brought comfort to her and strengthened us as a family” ~Mercy’s father

With guidance and support, the family regained confidence. Life is still hard, but Mercy is more comfortable and they no longer feel alone in caring for her.

You can give more families like Mercy’s hope and support when they need it most. Please donate today to help children in Kenya receive the compassionate palliative care they deserve.
