Thanks to a very generous response to our February appeal to raise funds for our vertical sack gardening initiative, the project is going ahead and becoming a real success. We’re delighted to report that 100 palliative care patients, and their family members, have already benefitted from the project. Meru Hospice welcomed an agronomist to conduct a training event for the families in vertical sack gardening. All the families have received starter sacks, seedlings and seeds to start growing their own food at home.

This simple, sustainable method of growing vegetables in sacks is  making a meaningful difference for the poorest patients –  particularly for those in urban areas without their own land. It’s helping to improve food security and bring a sense of independence and purpose to those living with life-limiting illness.

“Before the training, I didn’t know how I would feed my family. Buying vegetables every day is a struggle. Now, with these sacks and the skills we’ve learnt, I can grow food right outside my home. It’s a big relief. I’ll be able to feed my children and even share with my neighbours.”
~Jane, project participant

This project to support patients with food has been made possible thanks to donations from our supporters. If you would like to continue supporting this work, we would welcome any donations that could help us extend this project to even more families. Just £30 buys grow sacks and seeds for five families. Donate here today. Thank you.
