Over the past year, we have helped our partner Tumaini La Maisha in running Joanna’s House in Nairobi, a hostel offering accommodation and support for cancer patients and their caregivers who travel from across Kenya for specialist treatment at Kenyatta National Hospital.

With our support, Joanna’s House provided room, board, meals, and transport to 20 patients, many of whom stayed for extended periods to complete radiotherapy or other treatments. For patients facing long journeys and the high cost of accommodation in the city, this safe and supportive place made all the difference. Without this support, many would have had no choice but to go without treatment altogether.

In addition to accommodation, we helped cover essential costs such as transport, medical consultations, medication and personal care supplies, easing the financial burden on patients and families already under immense strain.

One of these patients was Shadrack, pictured here helping in the kitchen at Joanna’s House. During his stay, Shadrack chose to volunteer with household tasks as a way of giving back. He was deeply thankful for the support he received, which enabled him to continue treatment without worrying about where he would stay.

Through projects like this, our supporters are helping to ensure that people affected by cancer in Kenya can access care with dignity and hope, even when faced with the enormous challenges of serious illness far from home.

Donate today to support this work. Thank you.
